Eneref Expands Water Initiative

New Series of Eneref Reports to Urge More Diverse Global Solutions for Socially Responsible Water Management

Philadelphia, PA, (Sept 24, 2018) – Eneref Institute will publish a series of reports to encourage newer, more sustainable technologies in water management for agricultural, industrial and municipal water use applications. Eneref Institute is a research and advocacy organization with a mission to highlight and encourage solutions that promise an earth-friendly economy through socially responsible sustainable development.

In the first report of the Water Initiative, Eneref will examine the benefits of cross-flow microsand filtration based on Eneref’s own research, which found the technology to be a reliable, efficient and environmentally friendly means of eliminating submicron particulate in HVAC cooling tower and process cooling applications. The report is scheduled for release on October 22, 2018.

“Using a Vortisand cross-flow filtration system, we saved a Kaiser Medical facility about $130,000 each year in energy and maintenance in their cooling tower, simply because the water is now cleaner and contains far fewer particulates,” explained Mahendra Mistry, a principal with California-based J.D. Sales Company. Vortisand® is a brand of Evoqua® Water Technologies.

Eneref develops influential initiatives with messaging designed to build advocacy for common-sense solutions that achieve effective results and foster a more efficient use of natural resources.

As part of Eneref’s Water and Women campaign—now a division under the Water Initiative—Eneref just published a report on the successful installation of a transportable water treatment system in a rural Kenyan village. In many societies of Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and rural South America, young women and girls are often faced with the daunting challenge of securing fresh water resources for their families—a chore that comes at the opportunity cost of less time for schooling. The installed solution employed a CUBO Environmental Technologies system and was coordinated by Eneref Institute’s Nairobi, Kenya office.

“Water is a precious and vital resource of our ecosystems on which life itself is based,” explained Seth Warren Rose, Founding Director of Eneref Institute. “For this reason, Eneref looks to uncover and report on technologies that protect our water resources in a way that is both effective and socially responsible.”

Eneref reports are evidence-based and demonstrate best practices in water management. The above-mentioned Eneref reports can be found at www.eneref.org/water. Eneref’s Water Initiative will be spearheaded by Obaidullah Mohiuddin, Ph.D., an Environmental Science Editor with Eneref Institute since 2015.
